Habitation Renewal
Chicago, Illinois
Redevelopment of this public housing complex reconnects the 80 acre site to the existing city grid and re-establishes a "city block" pattern that engenders parcels for manageable, phased development without the displacement of existing residents. A new urban boulevard that becomes a district organizer is supplemented by the relocation of existing bus routes to coincide with the new street hierarchy and by a new rapid transit station on the adjacent elevated rail line.
