National Astronauts Memorial John F. Kennedy Space Center, Florida
Against the background of a bougainvillaea arbor and a royal palm promenade, a parallel ramp/stair entices visitors to descend below the waterline to nine com- memorative courts carv- ed into the existing retention pond. Black flamed granite walls in each of the nine interconnected courts allows water to trickle over the edge, fostering a calming, contem- plative environment.
